Hafez Modirzadeh:

Hafez Modirzadeh is a first generation Iranian American who teaches the innovative Improvised Music Studies Program at San Jose State University. Since 1983 he has been working on "Chromodal Discourse," a musical concept that incorporates both his Persian and American jazz heritage and was showcased on this debut CD. It is the ongoing basis for his musical explorations. Rooted in the legacy of African-American musical traditions, his playing and composition is also marked by the ability to adapt middle eastern sources into an intelligent and most original melodic conception.
